Court Quashes Hotel Licence Over Two Insects
A big court in Mumbai decided that a hotel called Park Inn by Radisson should not be shut down because the food safety agency found just two insects in its kitchen.
The court said the hotel had a high compliance score and that a few insects did not justify stopping its food service.
The judge told the agency to be realistic and not overreact.
The court also asked the agency to check other government restaurants and to give the hotel its licence back right away.
This case shows that the agency has been closing many restaurants, but the court thinks some closures are too harsh.
Bombay High Court quashed the Maharashtra FDA’s suspension of Park Inn by Radisson’s FSSAI licence.
The hotel had a 95% compliance score; only two insects were found in a kitchen inspection.
Acting Chief Justice Ravindra V Ghuge urged a realistic approach, saying “We are in India.”
The bench ordered the FDA to restore the licence immediately and to inspect all government and semi‑government eateries.
The case highlights a broader FDA crackdown on nearly 100 establishments in Maharashtra.
