Partha Chatterjee to be Treated as Independent MLA in Bengal Assembly
A former minister named Partha Chatterjee, who was suspended from his political party after being arrested, will attend an upcoming assembly meeting.
He used to be a minister and had special privileges, but now that he's no longer a minister and his party suspended him, he won't get any special treatment.
He'll be given a seat that's not with the ruling party or the opposition, but in between them, like an independent lawmaker.
He also won't get his own private room anymore and will use the same facilities as other regular lawmakers.
The Speaker of the assembly confirmed that if he wants to speak during the meeting, he will be given time, just like any other lawmaker, according to the rules.
Chatterjee has said he plans to attend and might even speak during the debates.
