Allahabad HC Criticizes State for Denying Compensation
A young boy named Adarsh Pandey lost his parents in a train accident.
The government promised to give him money to help him, but the state government said they couldn't give him the money because they didn't have proof that his parents died in the accident.
The boy asked the court for help.
The court said it was unfair for the state government to say no when the central government had already given the money.
The court called the state government's decision a 'mockery of policy'.
Allahabad High Court criticized the Uttar Pradesh government for denying ex gratia compensation to a minor who lost his parents in a rail accident.
The Centre had already verified the claim and released its share of Rs 5 lakh, but the state government denied the payment citing lack of proof.
The court termed the state's denial a 'mockery of policy' during the hearing of the petition filed by Adarsh Pandey.
Both the Centre and the state government had announced financial relief for the victims' next of kin, with the state promising to match the Centre's amount.
The Union of India filed a counter-affidavit stating that it had made the payment as per the declaration, while the state took a contradictory stand.
