Kolkata Airport Boosts Fog Safety with Dual CAT III-B ILS
Kolkata airport has made it safer for planes to land in thick fog.
It has added special equipment to both ends of its main runway.
This means planes can land even when visibility is very low.
Before, only one end had this equipment.
Now, planes can use either end, making it easier to manage traffic and use less fuel.
Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport upgrades both ends of its primary runway with CAT III-B Instrument Landing System (ILS)
This allows flights to land in dense fog with visibility as low as 50 meters
Previously, only one end had the CAT III-B ILS, now both ends are equipped
Dual CAT III-B capability improves operational efficiency and reduces fuel burn
Airports without advanced systems like CAT III-B ILS face diversions or cancellations in low visibility
