IndiGo Celebrates 20 Years, Eyes Global Expansion
IndiGo is a big airline in India that has been flying for 20 years.
It wants to fly more people to and from other countries, especially people of Indian origin living abroad.
The airline will use new big planes called A321 XLR and A350.
It will stop using some older wide‑body planes because of travel restrictions.
A new boss, Willie Walsh, will start leading the company next month.
IndiGo keeps its focus on keeping costs low and being friendly to the environment.
IndiGo, India's largest airline, is celebrating 20 years and plans to expand internationally with Airbus A321 XLR and A350 aircraft.
The airline aims to serve the global Indian diaspora, bringing passengers to and from India rather than competing with Gulf hub models.
IndiGo will discontinue wide‑body operations in October 2023 due to geopolitical tensions and will focus on long‑haul strategy.
Willie Walsh, former IATA Director General, will take over as CEO on August 3, 2024, bringing experience from Aer Lingus, British Airways and IAG.
The company maintains a strong domestic network, over 66% market share, and is pursuing fleet growth while prioritizing cost leadership and environmental performance.
