APPCB Orders Production Halt After Violations at Paritala Tyre Unit

The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board inspected a tyre-processing factory in Paritala without warning.

Inspectors found used tyres, sludge and other waste spread around the site.

The factory’s system for treating dirty water was not working properly.

Extra gas was being burned in a room at ground level.

The rules say this gas should be burned through a 30-metre-high stack.

Because of these problems, the board ordered the factory to stop production.

Officials will also check whether the factory followed the conditions of its approvals.

Similar factories across Andhra Pradesh must be inspected and report their findings by October 7.

The board also began the process of seeking environmental compensation.
