Panel urges action on anti-India narratives in Bangladesh
A group in the Indian government called the Parliamentary Committee on External Affairs, led by Shashi Tharoor, has suggested that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) should create a special team.
This team would be part of the External Publicity & Public Diplomacy (XPD) Division.
Its job would be to watch, understand, and respond to negative stories about India in Bangladesh.
The group made this suggestion because there have been many false and negative stories about India in some Bangladeshi media, and there is growing concern about violence and hostility towards Indians.
The committee also urged the Indian government to work constructively with Bangladesh to make their relationship more stable.
India has a special connection with Bangladesh because it helped Bangladesh gain independence in 1971, and the committee believes India should not abandon its relationship with Bangladesh.
A parliamentary panel recommended setting up a dedicated unit to counter anti-India narratives in Bangladeshi media.
The unit would be part of the MEA's External Publicity & Public Diplomacy (XPD) Division.
The recommendation comes in response to persistent misinformation and anti-India rhetoric in Bangladeshi media.
The MEA remains the nodal body for addressing perceptions and narratives in Bangladesh.
The panel urged the Centre to stabilize relations with Bangladesh amid escalating violence and hostility.
