Mumbai NGO Launches Pet Microchipping Project for Permanent Digital Identity

Mumbai NGO Launches Pet Microchipping Project for Permanent Digital Identity

JeevOne Welfare Foundation has started putting tiny identification chips under pets’ skin.

The first camp took place in Kharghar and included about 25 dogs.

Each chip has a special number connected to an online record.

The record can include the animal’s medical history and its guardian’s contact details.

A scanner can read the chip if an animal is lost.

Unlike a collar, the chip cannot easily fall off or be removed.

The project may also help rescue groups track vaccinations and sterilisation.

JeevOne wants to expand the program to pets and stray animals in more parts of India.

The NGO says the system could help reduce abandonment and improve reunions.
