CBI Challenges Partha Chatterjee’s Bail Compliance in Recruitment Case
The CBI is investigating Partha Chatterjee in a case about alleged problems in hiring teachers and staff.
Chatterjee was given bail after spending more than three years in custody.
One rule of his bail says he must meet the investigating officer once every week.
The CBI says he did not do this regularly.
Chatterjee’s lawyer says he has health problems and sometimes needs hospital treatment.
The lawyer also says the CBI was told he might appear through video instead.
A Kolkata court has agreed to examine the CBI’s complaint.
The court will hear the matter again on September 29.
The allegations about the recruitment case and the alleged bail violation have not been finally decided.
The Central Bureau of Investigation accused former West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee of violating his bail conditions.
The agency alleged that Chatterjee failed to appear before the investigating officer every week.
Chatterjee’s lawyer cited illness and occasional hospitalisation, saying the CBI had been emailed about virtual appearances.
His bail conditions include weekly reporting, court attendance, passport surrender, witness-protection restrictions, and a ban on holding government office.
The special CBI court in Kolkata admitted the complaint and scheduled the next hearing for September 29.
