Maharashtra Mandates Breastfeeding Warning on Infant Food Products

Maharashtra Mandates Breastfeeding Warning on Infant Food Products

Maharashtra officials have created a new rule for food made for babies and young children.

Packages must say that breast milk is best for babies.

The rule covers items such as baby cereals and supplementary foods for children up to two years old.

Formula milk is not being banned.

Companies can still sell formula if they follow the rules.

Officials also said babies should receive supplementary foods only after six months.

Packages must not show pictures of mothers or babies.

Companies are also prohibited from advertising or promoting these infant foods.

The order was issued after inspections found that some products were missing required information.
