Controversy Over Tantya Mama Statue in Khargone
A big statue of a tribal hero named Tantya Mama was put up in a town called Khargone in Madhya Pradesh.
The statue was supposed to be made of metal or stone, but it was actually made of a cheaper material called FRP.
This caused a big problem because the government spent a lot of money on the statue, but the actual cost of the material used was much less.
The Congress party found out about this and told the authorities.
The person in charge admitted there was a mistake and said they would take action against the people responsible.
Tantya Mama was a brave man who fought against the British a long time ago.
A 9.9-ft tall statue of tribal icon Tantya Mama was installed in Khargone town on November 15, 2025.
The statue was allegedly made of FRP instead of the specified metal or stone, costing only Rs 1 lakh instead of the tendered Rs 9.90 lakh.
The Congress party exposed the controversy and submitted a complaint with documentary evidence.
The local chief municipal officer admitted to the irregularities and stated that a departmental inquiry has begun.
Tantya Mama was a tribal freedom fighter who battled the British for seven years and was executed in 1889.
