Sobers' Superstition: Gavaskar's Shoulder and Wadekar's Prank

Sobers' Superstition: Gavaskar's Shoulder and Wadekar's Prank

Sir Garfield Sobers, a famous cricket player from the West Indies, had a funny belief.

He thought that if he touched Sunil Gavaskar, an Indian cricket player, on the shoulder before batting, it would bring him good luck.

During a match in 1971, the Indian team captain, Ajit Wadekar, found out about this belief.

To stop Sobers from touching Gavaskar, Wadekar locked Gavaskar in the bathroom.

Without touching Gavaskar's shoulder, Sobers got out on the very first ball he faced, scoring zero runs.

This shows that even great players can have unusual beliefs and that luck isn't always on their side.

Sobers was also known for enjoying life off the field and was a great dancer.

He recently passed away at the age of 89, and many people remember him as the greatest all-rounder in cricket.
