Andaman and Nicobar Withdraw Green AI Data Centre Proposal

Andaman and Nicobar Withdraw Green AI Data Centre Proposal

The island administration wanted companies to study building a large computer centre on Great Nicobar or Little Andaman.

Such a centre could use powerful computers for artificial intelligence.

It was described as “green” because it might use renewable energy and special cooling systems.

The administration invited companies to share their ideas on August 10.

Four days later, it cancelled the invitation, saying there were administrative reasons.

The proposed locations included areas marked for other uses in a draft development plan.

Local tribal communities and experts have raised concerns about large construction projects on the islands.

A separate Great Nicobar project is also being challenged over possible effects on people, forests, wildlife, and biodiversity.
