India's Electronic Goods Exports Surge to Third-Largest Category
India is selling a lot more electronic items, like phones, to other countries.
These exports have become the third-biggest type of goods India sells abroad.
This big jump is thanks to the government helping companies make more electronics in India.
Sales of these goods have grown very fast, reaching over $22 billion in just six months.
The United States, a big buyer, has also bought many more electronics from India, even though overall sales to the US went down.
This growth is mostly because of making lots of mobile phones, especially with companies like Apple making iPhones in India to sell to the world.
While this is great news, the country still needs to make more of the small parts that go into electronics, not just assemble the final products.
Also, the success is closely tied to the US market, which could change.
India's electronic goods have risen to become the third-largest export category in 2024-25 and continued this trend in 2025-26.
Electronic goods exports reached $22.2 billion in the first six months of FY26, showing a 41.9% year-on-year increase.
Government initiatives, particularly the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, have significantly boosted electronics manufacturing and exports.
Exports to the US, India's largest electronics market, saw over 100% growth during April-September, despite an overall decline in Indian exports to the US.
The sector's growth is heavily concentrated in mobile phone production, with Apple being a major player in diversifying manufacturing beyond China.

Sustaining Export Growth
Growth Drivers
Government incentives like the PLI scheme and increased domestic manufacturing, particularly in mobile phones by major players like Apple, are driving strong export growth.
Potential Risks
The sector faces risks due to its high concentration in mobile phone exports, global tapering demand for smartphones, and India's continued reliance on importing electronic components and designs.
US Market Dependence
Growth Drivers
A temporary exemption of US tariffs and strong growth in electronic goods exports to the US (over 100% in April-September) have significantly contributed to the overall surge.
Potential Risks
The success of India's smartphone exports is closely tied to the US market. Experts warn that the US administration's push for reshoring manufacturing could put pressure on this stellar growth.
