Social Security Changes in 2026: COLA, Retirement Age, and Taxes
In 2026, Social Security is making some changes.
You might get a small increase in your monthly payments due to the cost of living adjustment (COLA).
Also, the age when you can get your full benefits will increase, so plan ahead!
If you earn a lot of money, you might pay a bit more in taxes towards Social Security.
Additionally, paper checks are being phased out, meaning you'll need to receive payments through direct deposit or a debit card.
COLA adjustments are projected to increase monthly checks by 2.7% to 2.8% in 2026.
Full retirement age will increase to 66 years and 10 months in November 2025 for those born in 1959.
Full retirement age will increase to 67 for those born in 1960 or later in 2026.
The wage cap for Social Security taxes is expected to increase.
Paper checks for Social Security benefits will no longer be issued after September 30.
