PSHRC Committee Visits Amritsar Central Jail

PSHRC Committee Visits Amritsar Central Jail

The Amritsar core committee of the Punjab State Human Rights Commission visited the Central Jail to review security and prisoners' rights.

They found that the jail is overcrowded, with 4,700 inmates against a capacity of 2,200.

About 75% of the inmates are undertrials.

The committee recommended installing 5G-compatible jammers and more sniffer dogs to stop drug smuggling.

They also noted a shortage of staff and medical personnel.

The committee suggested recruiting more staff and improving medical facilities.

The jail administration promised to respond to these recommendations.
