Modi to Launch Bengal Durga Puja Festivities at Eden Gardens
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kolkata on October 10 for a large Durga Puja event.
The program will take place at Eden Gardens on Mahalaya evening.
He is expected to inaugurate at least five pujas.
He will also speak by video to about 5,000 Puja committees.
Modi probably will not paint the eyes of the Durga idol.
This is because that ritual would mean the idol could not be moved for 10 days.
Singers, musicians and thousands of dhakis will perform.
Drones will make Durga-themed shapes in the sky.
People without invitations can watch the event on large screens at many places in the city.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate at least five Durga pujas on October 10.
Modi will address about 5,000 Puja committees through video conference from Eden Gardens.
He is unlikely to perform Chokkhu Daan because the idol would then need to remain at the venue for 10 days.
Performers will include Kaushiki Chakraborty, Shantanu Moitra, Shaan, Dohar and 15,000 dhakis.
The event will feature drone formations and live broadcasts on giant screens at least 35 city locations.
