US Tariffs Challenge India's Seafood Exports in 2025
In 2025, the US put new taxes on seafood from India, making it harder for Indian companies to sell there.
First, they added a 5.77% tax on top of an existing 2.49% tax.
Then, they proposed a big 26% tax, which later changed to a 10.5% tax on all imports.
In August, they added even more taxes, making it very expensive for Indian seafood.
This made Indian seafood more expensive in the US, and sales dropped a lot.
But India found new buyers in places like the EU, China, Vietnam, and Russia, so overall, they sold more seafood than before.
Experts think India will keep selling a lot to the US in 2026 and might even sell more to Europe and the UK.
The US imposed a 5.77% Countervailing Duty (CVD) and a 2.49% Anti-Dumping Duty (ADD) on Indian seafood in 2025.
A proposed 26% retaliatory tariff was later changed to a uniform 10.5% duty on all imports, followed by a 25% basic and 25% penal tariff in August.
Seafood exports to the US fell by $62 million (4.2%) from April to October 2025, with a sharper decline of $174.57 million (33.34%) from August to October.
Exports to the EU and China increased by 39% and 19.6% respectively, with significant rises to smaller markets like Vietnam (109%) and Russia (52%).
Overall seafood exports rose by 16% from April to October 2025, with a positive outlook for 2026, expecting to sustain above 40% market share in the US.
