Tribunals award compensation for 2023 road accident deaths
Two men, Manish Kumar Chaudhary and Aniket Dabholkar, died in separate road accidents in 2023.
Manish was riding his motorcycle when a DTC bus suddenly changed lanes and hit him in Delhi.
Aniket was standing next to his scooter when a speeding MSRTC bus hit him in Maharashtra.
Both families asked for money to help them because the men were the ones earning for their families.
The courts looked at the evidence and said the bus drivers were not careful.
The courts gave the families Rs 1.26 crore and Rs 2.21 crore as compensation.
The bus companies have to pay this money.
A Delhi tribunal awarded Rs 1.26 crore compensation to the family of Manish Kumar Chaudhary, who died in a road accident in October 2023.
The accident occurred when a DTC bus abruptly changed lanes, causing Chaudhary's motorcycle to collide with the bus.
CCTV footage contradicted the bus driver's claim, showing the bus was at fault.
The tribunal rejected the defense's plea of contributory negligence and held the bus driver responsible.
The compensation was awarded under various heads and the insurer, New India Assurance Co Ltd, was directed to deposit the amount.
Another tribunal directed the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation to give Rs 2.21 crore as compensation to the family of Aniket Dabholkar, a 30-year-old engineer, who was knocked down by a state transport bus in December 2023.
The MSRTC had claimed that the accident occurred as a biker riding ahead of the bus suddenly braked, but the tribunal found that the bus driver was speeding.
The tribunal stated that the victim was not at fault as his vehicle was parked and he was standing to the side.
