14‑km Crochet Flag Breaks Guinness Record in Visakhapatnam
A huge 14‑kilometre long flag made of crocheted pieces was shown at a stadium in Visakhapatnam, India.
More than 40,000 small flags were stitched together by women, children, and craft lovers from many Indian states and from Indian communities abroad.
The project, called Project Tiranga, was done to honor Pingali Venkayya, the designer of the Indian flag, and to encourage people to learn the old craft of crochet.
Volunteers worked for about 12 hours to put the flag together, making it longer than the previous world record of 11.78 kilometres.
Experts from Guinness World Records will check the display to see if it becomes the new record holder.
A 14‑km crocheted tricolour flag was displayed at Visakhapatnam's Port Stadium.
Over 40,000 hand‑knitted flags were stitched by people from seven Indian states and overseas Indian communities.
The display was part of Project Tiranga, a tribute to flag designer Pingali Venkayya and a push for patriotism.
Volunteers spent nearly 12 hours assembling the flag, surpassing the previous Guinness record of 11.78 km.
Guinness World Records officials will verify whether the new record is officially recognised.
