Replacement Carrier Heads to Middle East Amid USS Lincoln Concerns

Replacement Carrier Heads to Middle East Amid USS Lincoln Concerns

The United States Navy has giant ships called aircraft carriers where thousands of sailors live and work.

One of them, the USS Abraham Lincoln, has been far from home for more than 260 days without stopping.

That is a record, and the sailors onboard are very tired.

Family members say the sailors are stressed and sad, and some reports say a few sailors even tried to jump off the ship.

There were also reports of problems like missing mail, not enough food, and unreliable hot water.

Navy leaders say those reports are exaggerated and that the sailors are strong and well cared for.

Because the Lincoln is so worn out, another carrier called the USS George Washington is sailing across the ocean to take its place.

This means there will be no US aircraft carrier in the Pacific Ocean for a while.

Some lawmakers want to investigate and visit the ship to make sure the sailors are treated well.

Everyone agrees the sailors are doing an important job far away from home.
