Tamil Nadu police arrest 837 in cybercrime mule account crackdown

Police in Tamil Nadu, a state in India, caught 837 people who helped online criminals.

These helpers are called mule account holders.

A mule account is a bank account that criminals use to move stolen money.

Sometimes people share their own bank details for a small commission, and that helps the criminals.

Police worked for two days, on August 6 and 7, checking accounts all over the state.

The arrests were connected to more than 9,800 complaints about online fraud.

The fraudulent money involved was a huge amount of over 545 crore rupees.

Police also took phones, SIM cards, passbooks and other items as evidence.

They are still studying more phone numbers and bank accounts to learn more.

Catching these helpers makes it harder for online criminals to hide and use stolen money.
