SEBI Enhances Oversight of Trading Members' Compliance
SEBI, the financial market regulator, is making sure that stockbrokers and trading firms fix any problems they found during recent checks.
They will forward any issues found to a specific stock exchange that will keep track of the progress.
Brokers must submit reports showing they've fixed the issues by certain deadlines.
If they don't comply, they will face fines and eventually, they may not be able to get new clients and trading services shut down.
The rules will start on July 1, 2025.
SEBI directs stock exchanges to monitor trading members' corrective actions following inspections.
Inspections, conducted jointly by SEBI and stock exchanges, revealed violations.
An "Assigned Stock Exchange" will oversee trading members' compliance with corrective measures.
Trading members must submit compliance reports within set timelines.
Non-compliance may lead to penalties, including a ban on new client onboarding.
