BJP appoints Haryana success architect Satish Poonia as Punjab in-charge
Some grown-ups work for a big political group in India called the BJP.
They help the group win elections in different states.
The leader of this group has a special helper named Satish Poonia.
He helped the group win a big election in a state called Haryana.
Now the leader has asked him to help in another state called Punjab.
He did this same job a long time ago, from 2004 to 2014.
It will be a harder job this time because the group does not have many elected members in Punjab.
He also has to talk with farmers in Punjab, who are very important there.
Some people in his group think new members from another group are changing things too much.
Poonia believes his group is liked in Punjab and wants to win the next election on its own.
The next election in Punjab will happen next year.
The BJP appointed Satish Poonia as its Punjab in-charge a day after making him national general secretary.
Poonia was credited with the BJP's 2024 Haryana Assembly victory, in which it won 48 of 90 seats.
He retains his role as Haryana in-charge and faces a tougher Punjab challenge, where the BJP has only two MLAs in the 117-member Assembly and no Lok Sabha MP.
Poonia previously served as Punjab in-charge from 2004 to 2014, when the SAD-BJP alliance formed governments in 2007 and 2012.
Poonia claimed there is an undercurrent in favour of the BJP in Punjab and said his effort would be to form a government on the party's own strength.
