Karnataka High Court Cuts Drunk Driving Compensation by 30%

The Karnataka High Court considered a case involving a motorcyclist who had been drinking.

The court said driving after drinking can hurt the driver and other people.

It also said this behavior puts the public and society at risk.

Because the rider was intoxicated, the court found the rider partly responsible for the accident.

This is called contributory negligence.

The court set that responsibility at 30 percent.

As a result, the compensation awarded to the rider was reduced.

The court said drunk-driving cases should be treated strictly.
