India Proposes 90-Day Work Rule for Gig Worker Benefits
The Indian government has proposed new rules to help gig workers, like those who deliver food or work for apps, get benefits.
If they work for at least 90 days in a year with one company or 120 days with different companies, they can get social security benefits.
They need to register on a government website and show documents like their Aadhaar card.
The government will give them an ID card, and companies will have to pay money into a special fund for their benefits.
If companies don't pay on time, they have to pay extra.
Some politicians, like Raghav Chadha, think this is a good step to help these workers.
Labour Ministry proposes 90-day work threshold for gig workers to access social security benefits.
Workers must register on a designated portal and meet the work threshold to be eligible.
Multiple aggregators require 120 days of work in the last financial year.
Workers need to provide Aadhaar and other documents for registration.
Aggregators must share worker details quarterly to keep them eligible for benefits.
