Draft Electoral Roll Errors Leave Hyderabad Voters Facing Notices
The Election Commission found many problems in Hyderabad’s draft voter list.
Some voters’ names or family details may have been entered incorrectly.
Other voters could not be matched with earlier records.
Nearly 93 lakh people may receive notices asking them to check their information.
Voters say they gave correct information during the enumeration process.
They believe some mistakes may have happened when booth officers entered the details manually.
People may need to file Form 8 to correct errors.
Officials and political representatives also warned voters not to share OTPs or bank information with strangers claiming to help with verification.
Of 2,64,87,213 voters who submitted Enumeration Forms by August 10, 60,50,918 were marked with anomalies and 32,36,659 were classified as unmapped.
The figures could lead to nearly 93 lakh voters receiving notices from election officers.
Voters and a SIR volunteer blamed possible manual-entry mistakes by booth-level officers for incorrect names, relationships and mapping details.
Some voters reported changed polling booths, new serial numbers and difficulty locating their names in the draft rolls published on August 17.
A Congress committee leader warned that fraudsters could use draft-roll information to seek OTPs, bank details or other sensitive data.
