Myanmar Seeks Indian Guidance on Constitutional Reform and Federalism

Myanmar Seeks Indian Guidance on Constitutional Reform and Federalism

Myanmar, a country in Southeast Asia, is trying to change its constitution to give more power to its regions.

To learn how, it invited experts from India to give talks in its capital, Naypyitaw, from July 16 to 18.

About 125 people came, including lawmakers, soldiers, and leaders of ethnic groups.

The talks covered how India’s constitution works, how it shares power between the national government and states, and how it changes its laws.

Many in Myanmar were interested in India’s idea of having governors for each state.

Myanmar’s president recently visited India and China, showing it wants help from India but also deals with China for trade.

The speakers said that Myanmar should look to India’s experience when it changes its own constitution.

The event helped both sides understand each other better.

Myanmar may use India’s model to make its own constitution fairer for all its people.
