Western Freight Corridor Complete, Cutting Cargo Times for Industry
India has finished building its dedicated freight train network.
Freight trains now have special tracks instead of sharing as many tracks with passenger trains.
This can help goods move faster across the country.
The full network is more than 2,800 kilometres long.
More than 430 freight trains use the Eastern and Western corridors each day.
The route connects factories and ports, including Jawaharlal Nehru Port.
Double-stack trains can carry many containers in one trip.
Faster trains may also help farmers send fruits, vegetables and flowers to markets before they spoil.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the final three Western Dedicated Freight Corridor sections in Vadodara on September 8, 2026.
The new sections cover 326 route kilometres and cost more than ₹20,700 crore.
The completed network spans more than 2,800 kilometres, with over 430 freight trains operating daily.
Average freight transit time from Dadri to Jawaharlal Nehru Port fell from about 66 hours to roughly 58 hours.
The corridor connects industrial hubs and ports, supporting double-stack trains, lower logistics costs and faster farm-produce deliveries.
