Allahabad High Court stays arrest of Ghazipur MP Afzal Ansari
A member of parliament named Afzal Ansari was in trouble with the police.
The police said some gun records were missing and filed three complaints about buying and selling guns on his licence.
They said the missing papers were from a long time ago, between 1983 and 1987.
The police believed the records were taken away on purpose, with the help of office clerks.
Afzal Ansari said the complaints were unfair and asked a big court, the Allahabad High Court, to help him.
The court listened to him and said the police cannot arrest him for now.
Two judges made this decision: Justices Siddharth Varma and Achal Sachdev.
The court wants to hear what the government's lawyers have to say and will look at the case again after three weeks.
In India, anyone who thinks they are being treated unfairly can ask a court for help.
The Allahabad High Court stayed the arrest of Lok Sabha MP Afzal Ansari in three FIRs linked to firearm purchases and sales on his licence.
The FIRs were registered at Kotwali police station in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, over allegedly missing official records and irregularities in weapon transactions.
Police alleged the records were deliberately removed 'in collusion' with the clerks concerned, and that a rifle purchased on Ansari's licence was untraceable.
Ansari, former arms clerk Gaurishankar Lal and arms clerk Sugriv Tiwari face charges of cheating, forgery, criminal conspiracy and Arms Act provisions.
The FIRs were lodged in July 2026 over missing documents from 1983 to 1987; the court listed the case after three weeks while granting time to the government counsel.
