US Envoy Nominee Highlights China Concerns, Supports Sri Lanka Reforms
Eric Meyer, the person chosen to be the US ambassador to Sri Lanka, talked to lawmakers about what the US wants to do in Sri Lanka.
He said the US will focus on keeping the seas safe, helping Sri Lanka's economy get better, and being careful about China's growing influence.
Sri Lanka is important because lots of ships pass by it.
The US has already helped Sri Lanka after a big storm called Cyclone Ditwah.
Meyer also said Sri Lanka should keep doing the things the International Monetary Fund (IMF) suggests to make its economy stronger.
Some people in the US government warned about China's involvement in Sri Lanka's ports, saying it's not a good example for other countries.
Meyer promised to work with the US government to make sure Sri Lanka stays independent and safe.
Eric Meyer, US envoy nominee to Sri Lanka, emphasized maritime security and economic reforms as top priorities.
Meyer highlighted Sri Lanka's strategic location along major global shipping lanes, crucial for US Indo-Pacific strategy.
The US has committed $2 million in aid for Cyclone Ditwah relief, showcasing its partnership with Sri Lanka.
