Meta Acquires AI Startup Manus
Meta, the company that owns Facebook, has bought a startup called Manus from Singapore.
Manus makes a special kind of AI that can do tasks like looking at resumes, planning trips, and analyzing stocks all by itself.
Meta plans to use this AI in their own products, like Meta AI, to make them smarter.
Manus says their AI is even better than one made by another big company called OpenAI.
Meta is spending a lot of money to make their AI better and compete with other big tech companies.
Some people are worried because Manus has ties to China, and they think it might not be safe for the US to invest in Chinese AI companies.
Meta didn't say how much they paid for Manus, but they did say they will keep selling Manus's service and add it to their other products.
Meta Platforms Inc. has acquired Singapore-based AI startup Manus to bolster its AI capabilities.
Manus develops a general-purpose AI agent capable of performing tasks like resume screening, trip planning, and stock analysis independently.
Meta plans to continue operating and selling Manus’ service and integrate its agents into consumer and business products, including Meta AI.
Manus had an annual revenue run rate of $125 million and was valued at close to $500 million earlier this year, with the deal valued at $2-3 billion.
Meta is investing heavily in AI, including a $600 billion investment over the next three years, to compete with rivals like OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft.
