Govt, RBI plan unified portal for unclaimed assets
The Indian government and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) are working together to create a single website that will help people find and get back their unclaimed money from different places like banks, insurance companies, and investment accounts.
Right now, it's hard for people to get their money back because they have to go through many different websites and processes.
The new website will make this easier and more transparent.
The government has already returned Rs 1,887 crore to people through a campaign called 'Your Money, Your Right'.
They are holding camps in different districts to help people understand how to claim their money.
The new website is expected to launch soon and will make it much easier for people to find and recover their unclaimed funds.
The finance ministry and RBI are developing a unified portal to help citizens recover unclaimed assets across multiple financial instruments.
The portal aims to streamline the current fragmented process and bolster consumer protection in the retail investment market.
The unified portal will be coordinated by the RBI and will integrate existing portals like UDGAM (RBI), MITRA (SEBI), and Bima Bharosa (IRDAI).
The 'Your Money, Your Right' campaign has already enabled the return of Rs 1,887 crore to rightful owners or their nominees.
Citizens will receive on-the-spot guidance on how to search for their unclaimed assets, update records, and complete claim procedures during the campaign.
