Japan's Ishiba to Resign, Leadership Race to Follow
The Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba, is going to quit after his party did poorly in an election and after he made a deal with the United States about trade.
Now, the people in his party will pick a new leader.
Some of the possible new leaders are Takaichi, Koizumi, and Motegi.
The new leader will then have to get support from other parties in the government because the Prime Minister's party doesn't have enough votes on its own.
Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba plans to resign following an election defeat.
A trade deal with the U.S. was announced the day of the resignation news.
The LDP will hold a leadership race to choose Ishiba's successor.
Potential successors include Sanae Takaichi, Shinjiro Koizumi, and Toshimitsu Motegi.
The new leader will need to secure support from opposition parties due to a lack of majority in both houses of parliament.
