Bangladesh's India Reset Runs Deeper Than Diplomacy Alone

Bangladesh's India Reset Runs Deeper Than Diplomacy Alone

Two neighbouring countries, India and Bangladesh, are trying to be friends again.

The leader of Bangladesh, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, met with India's top diplomat in Dhaka, and India's spy chief also visited for secret talks.

These meetings happened around the same time, which shows both sides want to talk.

India and Bangladesh share a border and a big river called the Ganges.

There is a very old agreement about sharing the river's water, and it ends in December.

Bangladesh needs a new agreement so it can be sure of getting enough water.

Bangladesh has also been making friends with China and Pakistan, which worries India.

India wants Bangladesh to be safe and calm, and Bangladesh wants to be friends with everyone while looking after itself.

The two countries are trying to find a way to help each other and solve their problems together.
