India Prepares for Busy Election Schedule in 2026 and Late 2025
India is getting ready for a lot of elections!
Many states will vote to choose their leaders in 2026.
These states include Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Puducherry.
Also, some special elections, called by-elections, will happen because some people who were leaders have passed away.
These by-elections will fill their empty seats in places like Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Manipur, and Nagaland.
Before the big state elections, many places will have local elections in December 2025.
This includes elections for city councils and village areas in Maharashtra, Kerala, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh.
These local votes can sometimes give an idea of how people might vote in the bigger state elections.
State assembly elections are scheduled for 2026 in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Puducherry.
By-elections will be held in Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Manipur, and Nagaland to fill vacant seats.
Maharashtra will hold elections for 246 municipal councils and 42 nagar panchayats on December 2, 2025.
Kerala is set to conduct local body elections in two phases on December 9 and 11, 2025.
Local elections are also planned for December 2025 in Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.
