BMC Halts Bullet Train Work Over Pollution Norms
The BMC in Mumbai has stopped all construction work for the bullet train project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
This is because the project was not following the rules to control air pollution.
The BMC found problems with how the project was handling dust and air quality.
The Bombay High Court also scolded the BMC for not doing enough to control air pollution in the city.
The court said the BMC should not allow any new construction projects if the air pollution problem continues.
The bullet train project is being managed by a special organization called NHSRCL.
All digging and earth-moving work has been stopped until the project follows the pollution control rules.
BMC ordered an immediate halt to construction activities for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project due to non-compliance with air pollution norms.
Inspections at the BKC site flagged multiple violations related to dust control and air quality management.
The Bombay High Court criticized the BMC for inaction on air pollution and warned against granting further construction permissions.
All excavation, digging, and earth movement activities have been stopped at the BKC site.
Work will resume only after contractors fully comply with air pollution control guidelines.
