Tourism, Gen Z And Politics: Shekhawat On India’s Challenges

Gajendra Singh Shekhawat is India’s Culture and Tourism Minister.

He said young people today can find information very quickly, so politicians must communicate with them differently.

He believes tourism can create many jobs as more Indians travel.

The government wants tourism to grow from about 6% to 10% of the economy.

He said foreign tourism has recovered slowly because of the pandemic, wars and expensive travel in India.

He also said India needs more hotels, better transport and simpler rules.

Large crowds at popular places can damage the environment and make travel difficult.

Shekhawat said the government responded to the student protest after it became larger and more distressing.

He defended the government’s nationalism-focused positions and rejected criticism that they were mainly political.
