Former Illinois Deputy Dies Serving Sentence for Sonya Massey Killing

Sean Grayson was a former police deputy in Illinois.

He went to Sonya Massey’s home after she called 911 about a possible prowler.

During the visit, he shot Massey three times.

The shooting was recorded by a body camera and caused protests.

A jury found Grayson guilty of second-degree murder.

He received a 20-year prison sentence.

Grayson had colon cancer and asked to leave prison early for medical reasons, but that request was denied.

He later died, and officials have not said what caused his death.
