Five Decades Later, Bade Achhe Lagte Hain Still Charms
Bade achhe lagte hain is a gentle song from the film Balika Badhu.
The film is about two teenagers who are married and slowly become friends.
Amit Kumar sings from the young husband’s point of view.
Rahul Dev Burman composed the music, and Anand Bakshi wrote the words.
The song uses soft instruments and a simple tune.
Burman also added a boatman’s call and a girl’s small responses.
Many people still enjoy the song after five decades.
The article praises the song but says the film’s ideas about marriage and women can feel old-fashioned.
Bade achhe lagte hain appeared in Tarun Majumder’s 1976 film Balika Badhu, released about five decades ago.
Rahul Dev Burman composed the song, with lyrics by Anand Bakshi and vocals by Amit Kumar.
The song portrays a very young married couple discovering companionship within a traditional joint family.
Burman used minimal orchestration, including tabla, sitar, sarangi, santoor, violin and a boatman’s folk-style interlude.
Although Balika Badhu’s patriarchy is criticized, the song remains popular through covers, television and Amit Kumar’s performances.

How the work has aged
The Song’s Enduring Charm
The song’s simplicity, youthful singing, gentle arrangement and innocent romantic mood have allowed it to remain fresh for five decades.
The Film’s Old-Fashioned Limits
The film’s benevolent patriarchy can feel heavy-handed because the young bride is portrayed as domestic before fully understanding marriage.

The song presents marriage as a gradual discovery of companionship within a traditional family setting.
The Film’s Old-Fashioned Limits
