Teacher Who Began on Rs 60 Selected for National Honour

Suman Goel studied at a school in Delhi and later returned there as a teacher.

She began teaching in 2004 while studying in college and earned Rs 60 a day.

This work helped her pay for her education.

Goel now teaches young children at the same school.

She helps students with lessons, food, health, attendance and school supplies.

She also supports children with special needs and helps them make friends in class.

Many of her students are the first people in their families to attend school.

She created a maths learning kit and encouraged students to write and publish books.

Her work has earned her the State Teachers Award and selection for the National Teachers Award 2026.
