Rain Could Lead to Shared Gold at 2026 Asian Games
The 2026 Asian Games will include a men’s cricket tournament.
The final will not have an extra day if rain stops play.
If the final cannot produce a winner, both teams will receive gold medals.
This means there could be two gold-medal winners.
The same rule applies to the bronze-medal match, with both teams receiving bronze.
In 2023, India won gold after rain stopped its final against Afghanistan because India had the higher ranking.
In 2026, India is scheduled to play Sri Lanka in one semifinal.
Pakistan and Bangladesh are scheduled to play in the other semifinal, and the winners will reach the final.
The men’s cricket final at the 2026 Asian Games will have no reserve day.
If rain prevents the final from producing a result, both finalists will receive gold medals.
If the bronze-medal match is abandoned, both teams will receive bronze medals.
India advanced to the semifinal after its quarterfinal against Afghanistan was abandoned because of rain.
The final is scheduled for October 3, 2026, at Kōrogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan.
