Andaman Lt. Governor Concerns on Land Scarcity
The Lt.
Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands is worried because there isn't much farmland left.
They said only a tiny part of the islands is used for farming now.
This is causing problems for local farming, dairy, and other related businesses.
The government is also celebrating a success story: a local cooperative group's coconut oil from Nicobar Islands got a special label, which helps them sell their product.
Lt. Governor DK Joshi expressed concerns about agricultural land scarcity in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Only 2.5% of the land area is currently agricultural land in the archipelago.
Land conversion is impacting agriculture, dairy, poultry, and animal husbandry sectors.
The Lt. Governor highlighted the success of the Tribal Development Cooperative Society (TDCS).
TDCS's Virgin Coconut Oil from Nicobar Islands received Geographical Indication (GI) tagging.
