UK Vehicle Production Drops 15.5% in 2025
In 2025, the UK made fewer cars and trucks than before.
A big company called JLR had to stop making cars for six weeks because of a computer hack.
This, along with other problems like new taxes on trade and changes in factories, made it a very tough year for UK car makers.
However, at the end of the year, things started to get better, especially with more electric cars being made.
The people in charge think that next year will be better, with more new electric car models being made.
UK vehicle production dropped 15.5% to 764,715 units in 2025.
Car production declined 8% to 717,371 units, while commercial vehicle output plunged 62.3% to 47,344 units.
Tata Motors-owned JLR halted production for six weeks due to a September cyberattack, costing hundreds of millions of pounds.
December saw a 17.7% increase in car production, ending four months of decline.
Electric vehicle production rose 8.3% to 298,813 units, making up 41.7% of total output.
