Iran: US Sanctions as Deadly as War, Killing Half a Million
Imagine countries not getting along, so they stop trading and put rules to make it harder for each other.
Iran's Foreign Minister says that the rules that the US uses are hurting people.
They say a study found that these rules are causing as many deaths as a war, with about 500,000 people dying each year.
Most of those who die are kids and old people.
Iran thinks this is very unfair and is asking other countries who have the same rules to work together to fix it.
The study also suggests that these types of rules might not be a good way to deal with other countries.
Iran's Foreign Minister accused US sanctions of causing 500,000 deaths annually, mostly among children.
He cited a Lancet study suggesting sanctions are as lethal as war.
The study analyzed mortality rates in 152 sanctioned countries between 1971 and 2021.
Araghchi called Western sanctions 'inhumane' and urged a unified response from sanctioned nations.
The Lancet study suggests rethinking the use of sanctions in foreign policy.
