Jannik Sinner Withdraws From Shanghai Masters, Delaying Return
Jannik Sinner will not play in the upcoming Shanghai tennis tournament.
He has not played since winning Wimbledon in July because of a right knee injury.
He said he had hoped to compete, but did not explain this latest withdrawal.
He also missed the Beijing tournament in September.
Sinner is currently the world’s top-ranked player.
Alexander Zverev is 1,370 points behind him.
Sinner has more ranking points to defend in the remaining tournaments.
That could give Zverev a chance to move to No.
1 before the season ends.
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner withdrew from next week’s Shanghai Masters, scheduled for October 7–18.
The Italian has not played since winning Wimbledon in July, after sustaining a right knee injury.
