Bengal Government Moves to Control Sugar and Essential Prices

Sugar and some other everyday goods became much more expensive in Bengal.

The price of sugar rose by more than 30 percent in one month.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said the government was trying to bring prices down.

He said sugar prices had fallen a little after government action.

Officials are checking markets to see whether traders are charging unfair prices.

The government is also looking for unsafe food and harmful colours in sweets.

Adhikari said some people had been cheated when buying goods or homes.

He also said 120 people were arrested over an alleged food-delivery payment scam.
