YSRCP Demands Resumption of Rayalaseema Project
Some leaders from the YSRCP party visited a big water project site in Andhra Pradesh.
They want the current government to start working on the project again.
They say the project was almost finished when their party was in power, but now it's stopped.
They think the current government is stopping the project to prevent the previous leader, Jagan Mohan Reddy, from getting credit.
The government says the project isn't necessary and that the previous government didn't do things properly.
The YSRCP leaders warn that if the project doesn't start again, farmers might protest because the region could face more drought and unemployment.
YSRCP leaders demanded the immediate resumption of the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Project, accusing the current government of stalling it to deny political credit to former CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The project was launched on May 5, 2020, to address drought in Rayalaseema by utilizing floodwater that otherwise flows into the sea.
YSRCP leaders claimed that 85% of the project was completed during their tenure but no progress has been made under the current TDP-led coalition government.
Andhra Pradesh Irrigation Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu dismissed the opposition's claims, stating that the project is not necessary and that the previous government did not obtain proper clearances.
The minister alleged that the YSRCP government spent ₹990 crore without completing the project or providing additional water to Rayalaseema.
