Darjeeling Traffic: Road Plans Face Delays Amid Tourist Congestion
Imagine you're driving to a beautiful mountain town called Darjeeling, but the roads are super crowded, and it takes a long time to get anywhere.
Right now, it can take hours to travel just a few miles.
The local government is trying to fix this by building new roads.
One idea is a long road from Lebong to Teesta Bazar, and another is a shorter road from Lebong to 3rd Mile.
Building these roads takes time because they need to figure out where to put them, pay people who own the land, and find money to build them.
Traffic congestion is a common issue for tourists in Darjeeling.
A 2.5-hour delay was reported for an 8km stretch from Ghoom to Darjeeling.
The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) proposed two alternative routes to ease traffic.
One proposal involves a 35km route from Lebong to Teesta Bazar, and another involves a 13km stretch from Lebong to 3rd Mile.
The Lebong-Teesta route survey has begun, but project completion will take time due to challenges.
