Tribal Protests Over Demolitions in Mumbai Park
Tribal residents in Mumbai were very upset because the government is planning to demolish their homes in a national park.
They have lived there for many years and want the government to follow a plan to move them to new homes before demolishing their current ones.
On January 26, 2026, some of these residents attacked forest officials who were there to tell people about the demolitions.
The officials were damaged a government car and shouted that they wouldn't leave their homes.
The police have started investigating the incident.
The tribal residents also protested outside the home of the Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, to show their anger.
The protest stopped after officials promised to talk about the plan to move the residents to new homes.
Tribal residents protested outside Deputy CM Eknath Shinde’s residence opposing the demolition of their hamlets in Sanjay Gandhi National Park.
Forest officials were attacked by a mob during an awareness campaign for the removal of illegal encroachments in the park.
The mob pelted stones, damaging a government vehicle and putting officials at risk.
A case has been registered against 25 to 30 individuals under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
